Having a pure ELL class last year and again next school year, the Getting Stronger as Readers is my biggest hope so far.","dateCreated":"1339535876","smartDate":"Jun 12, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"staceynclarke","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/staceynclarke","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"54974056","body":"In response to Mccarty07, I agree completely. Having just right books for the students will help keep them involved in reading and motivated to read more on the topic. It will also make discussions with their partners more valuable and involved.","dateCreated":"1339537719","smartDate":"Jun 12, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"cshaw81","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/cshaw81","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"54975138","body":"I feel that there are a couple of important characteristics to a successful reading club. I feel that having an abundance of reading club baskets, with an abundant amount of books on students reading levels are some of the most important parts of a reading club. This will allow students to have the freedom of choice which will hopefully keep them interested in the reading clubs.","dateCreated":"1339542123","smartDate":"Jun 12, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"cvs20428","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/cvs20428","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"54975200","body":"In response to jab10501 I strongly agree teacher conference is very important. It helps with planning as well as giving the students more purpose and excitement. They look forward to you coming to talk to them and telling you about what they are doing.","dateCreated":"1339542434","smartDate":"Jun 12, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"cvs20428","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/cvs20428","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"55021454","body":"The reading club characteristic I feel is most important is the teacher confers with the reading club partners. I teach Kindergarten ESL on a Title I campus. My students need a lot of additional support beyond the mini-lesson. I think that it is important provide additional support with teaching reading strategies and habits of a proficient readers. I like to model a lot of these strategies and habits in my classroom in hopes that the children will 'read' like a proficient reader at home, where the support is minimal. Also, I think that is important for me to support the partner conversation to encourage more talk and higher order thinking.","dateCreated":"1339770867","smartDate":"Jun 15, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"amymurley-crawford","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/amymurley-crawford","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"55021672","body":"In response to abbyroad1, I agree that it is important for children to pick their topic when choosing a reading club. The readers are more excited about reading and enthusiastic to learn! It is a great way to build the readers' intrinsic motivation. Also, I agree that it is hard to find the level of books needed for certain topics. Although, I don't think as teachers we need to worry about having 100% of our books on the students levels. I enjoyed observing my students reading and learning from the pictures. Many of students made incredible inferences. Also, my students learned new information from reading the captions and labels during our NF reading clubs. Our readers will still learn and enjoy reading, even if they can not read the text and have to use other features to help them read like proficient readers.","dateCreated":"1339771976","smartDate":"Jun 15, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"amymurley-crawford","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/amymurley-crawford","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"55080398","body":"I really feel the level of the reading baskets is so important. It is very hard to do in kindergarten. It seems it is never enough books. Kids ask for things that there are not any books even in our library. It makes it very discouraging. I guess I'll be writing grants.","dateCreated":"1340131976","smartDate":"Jun 19, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"glr10405","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/glr10405","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1244589907\/glr10405-lg.jpg"}}],"more":51}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
